The last time I was experimenting with different kinds of approaches. Substractive or "Sandwich like" approaches do not seem to be adequate. This is because the architecture should have a more dynamic expression.
The idea of constructing the whole building out of brick according to the tradition of the northern german brick gothic slowly turns out to be quite tricky and not easy to control. Another metaphor which should be integrated is metaphor of splicing ropes. (Connectign to ropes with each other, see picture below) Translated into my design, this means that the paths the people are moving on, will also be used to create the primary spatial environment.
I still work on combinig the gothic brick techniques with the formal language of splicing. Here some pictures of the experiments.

some weeks ago I posted the last time. In the meanwhile the agents created their paths with the help of the script written in processing. These curves are simplified and optmized with a "wet grid script" written in rhino script.
Also the the Functions found a position in space regarding their relationship to the voxels and the pathcurves of the agents.
Now I try out several ways of translating this behaivioural diagramm into approachable space.
First I classified the curves and functions into two groups. The fast group and a slow group. Because according to the profiles of the agents and the curves they create, it is obvious that one part of the agents aspires their goal stronger than the other. These two groups are simplified according to differtnt priciples. Here a picture of a strictly linear aproach.
I'll test the priciple of folding by first setting up a set of rules for folding and subsequently apply these rules to the diagramm.
After these test I am going to test a substractive principle and a way of apply the kangaroo catenary tool on these curves inspired by the local tradition of brick gothic.

Little report on the analysis
It turned out that the decision to build a convention centre is a little premature.
So I went back and took a close look at the conditions around the location. The analysis shows the high rate of unemployed and the low purchasing power of the people living in Gaarden.
this shows the unemployment rate
Until the erection of the pedestrian Bridge over the Hörn made an end to this isolation, Gaarden has been totaly seperated from the rest of the city by the habour, other industrial areas and the railway tracks. I assume the high value of inhabitants with forgein background is a result of the settlement of many guestworkers during the sixtys which found employment on the dockyards.
The assumed monofunctional employment structur of Gaarden is in combination of global factors a reason for the high unemployment and therefore a reason for the low purchsing power. The high amount of post war dwellings from the fiftys which have in general a poorer living quality than dwellings from the 19th century has its roots in the heavy air raids during WW2.
It is observed that a slight process of gentrification is taking place. More people moving either to Mettenhof (satellie town in the west) or into the south of the city to Meimersdorf and to Moorsee (private estate development areas).
I assume that people who can afford a one family house go to the south and poorer people are pushed into Mettenhof. This might partly have its reason in the new price policy of the real estate trusts (BauBecon/ Pirelli RE) which have bought great parts of the dwellings in gaarden from the city. Which has been the former puplic owner.
A reason for this price policy is the fact that Gaarden is of great interest for German people in the age of 20-24. These young germans which has moved from outside the city to gaarden are in large parts students. They ask for affordable innercity locations. So the real estate trusts can choose which kind of hirer come into their estate.
The bridge over the Hörn is also used by passengers using the Ferrys to Norway. The Norwegenkai. The ferrys arrive every day at 10 and leave at 14 o clock.
I think in order to push the value of Gaarden, this students have to be kept into Gaarden. So a development of a start up center for young professionals in combination with higher standart living might be a slolution. Also the high amount of passengers passing the Hörnbrücke should be integrated and used. But I still do not have a clear vision how to combine a attraction point for forgein guests and a development of dwellings and startup centers on my location.

swarm with trail
Now the swarm is so far that its agents react on agents of the same type and on the environment represented by the voxel grid.
Still needed: Reaction on other types of agents and a dfx export function.
The picture below shows the swarm acting without the voxel grid- just reacting on each other.
The voxel grid is not well adjusted yet. This will come next.
Next to these things I am busy experimenting with Grasshopper Kangaroo and developing the functional programm which is based on the demants of the city. As they are in need of a convention center I now plan to combine this with dwelling, office and shopping.

hallo/hello swarm
first steps in processing. Here a screenshot of the first swarm emitted at the schmidt tower checking and searching for the most quiet spot in voxelspace. :) still much work to do!

context model is too large
It seems that the digital context model is too big for my windsimulation and for my other analysis. Or my laptop is too weak...

Data into voxels
the raw input of the parameters are often only in 2D. These 2D data has to be translated into 3D. This happens by means of a script which calculates the intensity of a certain parameter at certain voxel in space. The position and the values of the voxels get stored in a OpenCalc document. They will be read out by the subsequent steps.

noise, gas and wind- first parameters from Kiel
Just received a Mail with information about parameters like noise, wind and air polution. Very helpful. Thanks to Mr. Juhl from the "Umweltschutzamt".

Maya Windtunnelsimulation-first steps
Here is a screenshot of my first try out of the maya windtunnel simulation. As soon the environmental model is finished I'll map out the areas of high wind speeds. They will be feeding the voxels of my parametric model.

xyz to surface and prep. for windtunnel simulation
Got the xyz data from kiel last week. I wrote a short script to turn the points into surface. As I take wind as one of the parameters influencing my model I am currently preparing the Maya Fluid model for that. Pictures will come.
